Why Nick
A Voice for Today’s Families
Nick Degaitas brings a perspective to the Select Board that has been largely absent in recent years—that of a parent with young children currently in Groton-Dunstable public schools.
Like many families in Groton, Nick has seen firsthand how ongoing budget challenges are affecting classrooms, educators, and students. For him, these are not abstract policy discussions—they are real decisions with real impact on his children and others across the district. His candidacy reflects a belief that the voices of young families should be more strongly represented in town leadership, particularly at a time when school funding and affordability are front and center.
A Background in Business and Community Partnership
Nick’s professional background is rooted in pharmacy management, where he has led large teams and managed operations and budgets in complex, fast-paced environments. His work has focused on identifying efficiencies, reducing waste, and making thoughtful, data-driven decisions. That experience has shaped a practical approach to evaluating tradeoffs, planning for long-term sustainability, and delivering results.
In addition to his professional work, Nick has been actively involved in the community. During his time on the board of the Groton-Dunstable Education Foundation, he worked to strengthen partnerships with local businesses and expand funding for innovative programs in the public schools. That experience reflects a broader commitment to supporting the town through both public service and community engagement.
Thoughtful, Independent Leadership
Nick believes the role of the Select Board is not simply to approve recommendations, but to provide oversight, ask questions, and serve as an independent check in the decision-making process.
He approaches leadership with a collaborative mindset, but also with a clear commitment to independence. Strong boards depend on members who are willing to engage in thoughtful discussion, evaluate proposals on their merits, and speak up when something warrants a closer look.
Nick would bring a balanced approach—working constructively with town leadership while also ensuring accountability, transparency, and careful decision-making. His focus is on helping the Select Board take a more proactive, deliberate approach to the challenges facing Groton.
